The paths to permanent residence.

Between arrival and citizenship lies the green card — and several very different roads to it. These are the ones this practice handles, each explained in a paragraph instead of a maze.

This page explains the law in general terms. It is legal information, not legal advice about your case.

Adjustment of Status

If you are already in the United States and an immigrant petition is available to you, adjustment of status (Form I-485) lets you become a permanent resident without leaving the country. The process ties together your entire immigration history — entries, statuses, and prior filings — so eligibility review before filing is not a formality; it is the case.

Talk to a lawyer before filing if you have ever been out of status, worked without authorization, or entered without inspection.

EB-2 National Interest Waiver

For professionals with advanced degrees or exceptional ability whose work matters to the United States, the NIW allows self-petitioning — no employer sponsorship, no labor certification. The case is won or lost on how persuasively your work's national importance and your record are presented and documented.

Strong candidates often underestimate their own cases. An honest assessment of your profile is the right first step.

Family-based petitions

U.S. citizens and permanent residents can petition for close family members — spouses, children, parents, siblings — with very different waiting times depending on the relationship and category. Getting the category, the timing, and the evidence of a genuine relationship right the first time saves months or years.

Marriage-based cases deserve particular care: the process examines your relationship, and preparation makes the difference between routine and stressful.

Employment-based immigration

From sponsored positions to specialized categories, employment-based cases coordinate employer, employee, and government timelines. My corporate background is an asset here — I have sat on the company side of the table and speak both languages: HR's and the law's.

Employers and employees are welcome; conflicts are screened before engagement.

Travel documents

Advance parole, refugee travel documents, and re-entry permits — the papers that let you travel without abandoning what you are building here. The rules differ sharply by status, and the consequences of guessing wrong can be severe.

If you have a pending application and need to travel, ask before you book the ticket — not after.

Not sure which path is yours?

That is the most common question there is — and usually answerable in one conversation.
